Big news out of Southern California! Santa Monica’s new forwards coach, Scottish Rugby legend and former British and Irish Lions player Scott Murray to join USA Rugby Coaching Staff!

Santa Monica’s Head Coach and former international Riaz Fredericks informed his players that their forward coach “ has been appointed as the forwards coach under head coach Scott Lawrence to coach the Emerging Eagles or USA A team”.

Their three-game tour against Samoa A, Canada A, and Uruguay kicks off on the 30th of September in Florida before the team flies down to Uruguay and then back to the US for their final game on the 16th of October.

Said Fredericks “I can’t express how happy I am for Scott to have gained this huge honor and fantastic opportunity to further his coaching career while also representing SMRC on a national level. Scott clearly had an amazing career as a player reaching the highest heights and has a wealth of knowledge and experience that he can now share”.

Fredericks went on to say “I’m more than a little excited to be working alongside Scott this season, I was a big fan of his when he was playing because of the way he totally dominated the line-outs both in attack and defense. It didn’t matter whether Scotland was playing against a northern or southern hemisphere team, Scott consistently stole or disrupted opposition line-outs helping Scotland win some of their close hard fought legendary games against old foes England”.

As a player Murray was a true master of his craft, where he won the respect of his peers, the admiration of the fans. Santa Monica is thrilled to have him working with and associated as part of their club.
